About Zanzibar

Zanzibar is a world heritage site rich in history and culture. It’s made up of several islands. The major islands are Zanzibar city and Pemba Island. The beautiful islands lie off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean.

Zanzibar, also known as Spice Island, is renowned for spice farming. Black pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves grow here, contributing  to the economy.

The Island boasts endemic mammals such as Zanzibar red colobus, a rare primate with various coat patterns found in coral rag scrub and mangrove swamps. Other rare native wild animals you can find here include the Zanzibar leopard, bushpigs, palm civets, antelopes, bird life varieties, various mongoose species, Pemba flying foxes, and marine diversity.

Jozani Forest Reserve is home to Aders’ duiker and Kirk’s red colobus monkey.

In Stone town are beautiful winding alleys, labyrinths, grand Arab residences, mosques, curved wooden doors, and marketplaces.
