Day 1: Arrival – Transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at Kigali international airport, be met by our company guide who will warmly welcome you and drive to booked hotel for overnight stay.

Overnight: The Manor, Kigali/The Retreat/Hotel De Milles
Meals: Bed & Breakfast

 

Day 2: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park. Travel time +2 hours

You will be picked from either the airport or your Kigali hotel and immediately depart for Ruhengeri near Volcanoes National Park. You will drive in rolling hills with spectacular views of the valleys, with great plantations. Arrive in time for lunch, afternoon is spent on leisure.

Overnight: Five Volcanoes/The Bishop House/Virunga/Sabyinyo

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

 

Day 2:  Gorilla Trekking

Begin the day with breakfast ready for trekking, which begins at 7:00 am with a pre-tracking briefing from the Rwanda park officials. This trek is a guided one and it takes 2 – 6 hours depending on where the group assigned is at that particular day but meeting them is guaranteed.

In the afternoon, you can either relax by the lodge, have massage or visit Iby’ Iwacu cultural center to learn more about the local community.

What to carry/wear – rain jacket, drinking water, snacks, jungle boots, packed lunch, walking stick.

Overnight: Five Volcanoes/The Bishop House/Virunga/Sabyinyo

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

 

Day 4: Coffee + Boat ride in Kivu & transfer to Nyungwe. Travel time +5hours

After having your early morning breakfast, will head for a coffee experience at Kinunu, where you have a crop to cup coffee experience. Later you will be transferred for a boat ride in Lake Kivu, for a great boat experience, touring this beautiful lake, with great islands with many bird species. You will have lunch then head to Nyungwe Forest. This is a scenic drive. Arrive at booked hotel early evening and check in for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking & canopy walk at Nyungwe National Park

After breakfast, you will leave your hotel to experience the natural forest of Nyungwe known for having 13 species of primates, and transferred to the park for briefing and chimpanzee trekking. You will be entitled to one hour on finding the chimpanzees. After doing the chimpanzee trek, head for lunch and some refreshments before heading for a canopy walk in the afternoon. This 70 meters suspended metallic bridge will give you a great overview of the Nyungwe forest. On a lucky day, you will spot some primates in the forest. It will take roughly 1 and half hours to walk on this bridge, giving you a cool tree-top view. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Overnight: Mantis Kivu Marina Bay/Emeraude Kivu Resort

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

 

Day 6: Transfer to Akagera Travel time + 2hours.

After breakfast, you will drive to Akagera National Park. Akagera National Park is the only savannah park in Rwanda, located in the Eastern park of Rwanda bordering Tanzania. The park harbors wildlife such as Zebras, Warthogs, Giraffes, Topis, Waterbucks, and some members of the Big Five. Many bird species can be sighted as well.

You will have a game drive after lunch.

Overnight: Akagera Game Lodge/Ruzizi Tented Camp

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

 

Day 7: Akagera – Full day game drive

Have early breakfast then leave for a morning game drive to catch up with late hunters and early risers. Look out for big mammals like Elephants, Giraffes, Buffaloes, several Antelope species, and recently the re-introduced Lions and Rhinos. The park is a habitat for wildlife and several bird species. You will have a picnic lunch. Later, head for a boat trip on Lake Ihema to watch Hippos and crocodiles in the water or by the shores and meet the buffaloes and elephants wallowing by the water banks. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Overnight: Akagera Game Lodge/Ruzizi Tented Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

 

Day 8: Game drive & Transfer to Kigali.  Travel time + 2 hours.

After an early breakfast at 6 a.m, you will have a final game drive before departing for Kigali in the afternoon. Arrive and be dropped off at your hotel or airport.
