Mombasa

Mombasa lies in the Indian Ocean in Southeastern Kenya. The famous blue and white coastal city is a historical trading center. The first known European visitor to Mombasa was Vasco da Gama.

Mombasa town is on the Island but sprawls into the mainland. Kilindini Harbour and Tudor Creek lie between the mainland and the Island. Nyali Bridge connects the Island to the Mainland, Likoni Ferry to the south, while Makupa Causeway connects it to the west.

Hindu temples offer cultural diversity. A tour guide takes you inside the temples, where you see artistic paintings, idols, and artifacts.

Large elephant tusks welcome you to Mombasa city. Built from aluminum in 1956, they form the letter ‘M.’
