Lake Nakuru National Park

How to get to Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru was the setting for the scenic movie Out of Africa.

Lake Nakuru is situated close to Nakuru town, a mere 150km from Nairobi.

A road trip from Nairobi to Nakuru will take around 3 hours. Lake Nakuru is close to Maasai Mara and Lake Bogoria. You can tour both.

When to Visit Lake Nakuru National Park

People visit Lake Nakuru National Park throughout the year, but the dry season between June and December and January and March are exciting.

When it is dry, animals gather around the lake to drink. You can’t miss them.

In January and February, thousands of flamingos congregate at Lake Nakuru. Flamingo numbers are not as high for the rest of the year.

What to wear to Lake Nakuru

The general rule is lightweight clothing for comfort and because of the warm weather at Lake Nakuru. Wear light but comfortable footwear. Sunscreen and insect repellant will protect your skin.

A rain jacket will keep you dry in case of rain. Dresses, skirts, pants, shorts, and T-shirts should come in breathable fabric.

Carry hiking shoes, a hat, and swimwear.
