How to get to Mt. Kenya
Mount Kenya is just a three-hour drive from Nairobi. Tour guides offer transport from the airport in Nairobi to Mount Kenya.
You can fly to Mount Kenya National Park from Wilson Airport.
When to Visit Mt. Kenya National Park
Mount Kenya is open all year round. Visit Mount Kenya between December and March for easier climbing. It is sunny, clear, and relatively dry. March, April, and May can be too cloudy. October, November, and early December can be rainy.
What to wear in Mt. Kenya
To climb Mount Kenya, you must stay warm, dry, and safe from the elements.
You must have a waterproof layer of clothing to ward off the rain. Umbrellas and gaiters are helpful. Beneath the waterproof clothing, you will need a warm layer of clothing. Make this a T-shirt, a warm fleece sweater, and warm full-length pants.
Protect our feet with trekking socks and boots. Carry a sleeping bag and a mat.
Accessories are essential.

Sunscreen and bug-repellant will protect you. A First Aid kit may help with emergencies.

- Princess Elizabeth was sleeping at Treetop lodge in 1952 when King George VI died. She returned to England as queen. Treetops is now closed. You cannot sleep there but you can still see it.
- Mount Kenya is the highest peak in Kenya and the second highest in Africa. Mountain climbers and hikers conquer Mt Kenya every year. Go with a local guide for a safer and probably easier climb.
- Mount Kenya’s unique climatic conditions allow some unusual plant species to flourish.
- The scenery is breathtaking.
- Go fishing for trout in Mount Kenya’s lakes and tarns.
- Go horse riding in Ol Pejeta.
- Daytime game drives in Sweet Waters, Lewa, and Ol Pejeta. Early mornings and evenings are great for game drives.
